Role of local church, regional and state bodies
Local parish priest authorises SRE teachers and assistants for his parish. Original forms are sent to the diocesan CCD office; the parish keeps copies of SRE engagement forms and volunteer statutory declarations.
Diocesan CCD office advises parishes on child protection and authorisation procedures, and stores originals of all authorisation forms, cross checking these against the annual list of authorised teachers from the parishes.
Lay volunteer employees are authorised by the local parish priest; ordained representatives are authorised by the bishop.
