Child Protection
Mandatory for all leaders in the church and for all leaders of any group at any level and whoever is involved with children, such as SRE teachers. Following training, the person's name is submitted to the denomination's Child Protection Unit and, in the case of SRE teachers, a card is issued that informs both the local church and the school that the person has gone through a process.
Training
Training course of 5 hours called 'Breaking the Silence'. Approved by the Safe Churches programme.
Practical Component
Course involves workbook and interaction with DVD scenarios. Special course for trainers within the denomination.
Availability
Training occurs throughout the state on a needs basis particularly within regional clusters of Presbyterian churches.

This training is currently ongoing throughout the diocese. We hope to have the Child Protection programme organised as a day's training and every three years.
Training
Training in the skills and practical components for SRE are organised through the Western Inter-Church Committee for Special Religious Education (WICC/SRE) affiliated with ICCOREIS.
Practical Component
Offered as a component of Basic Training. The WICC/SRE committee works with the schools to help with this supervision and observation of the SRE teachers' lessons after communication with the principal.

The WICC/SRE committee is the contact and we do accept training offered by other denominations.

Three hour initial course with 90 minute update every three years. This is one part of the mandatory requirements.
Training
Two day Orientation course which forms the first three units of the 12 unit Level 1 course. Level 1 is the second part of the mandatory requirements. There are two other optional levels of training available.
Practical Component
Level 1 involves a practical component of observing a classroom, usually within the Orientation course. A second classroom practice is required throughout the training of new SRE teachers to assess competence.
Availability
Training is offered on a regional basis across the diocese; also in conjunction with other denominations through the ICCOREIS network in the Hunter region through the affiliate CCRESST. Recognition of prior training and training by other organisations is recognised once compatibility is established.

Must complete relevant paperwork (e.g. prohibited employment declaration, SRE teacher's engagement form); study and sign adherence to the Code of Conduct in Parish SRE Register.
Child Protection
Mandatory for all new SRE personnel and reviewed in each level of training.
Training
Parramatta Diocese has three levels towards the full accreditation. All new SRE personnel must undertake the Level 1 Accreditation training course in the year they start SRE teaching. Personnel are encouraged to undertake Level 2 and Level 3 training and avail themselves of further courses in training and formation at other institutes.
Practical Component
Level One: Written observation of video with teacher in Yr 3-6 and K-2 scenes, plus an observation of an experienced SRE teacher.
Level Two: Develop and present a lesson observed by diocesan personnel. Lesson outline presented to peers.
Availability
Parramatta Diocese would certainly accept the training requirements of fellow denominations, in collaboration between Christian denominations.

Lesson planning and mock lessons or observation lessons. Catechists commence in most cases as helpers or assistants and are encouraged to attend Basic Accreditation Course plus Child Protection in addition to practical hands-on prior to commencement as a catechist.
Availability
Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Sydney Archdiocese is responsible for the training of catechists. The CCD would not issue and accept training in Child Protection and Classroom Management accreditation from relevant denominations.

The training documentation is kept at the Central Office of the CCD Sydney where records are updated through a central system which keeps records of Basic, Intermediate, Advanced Accreditation Courses; Catechist Ministry Certificate Courses; Child Protection In-service; previous studies; Archdiocesan Accreditation and years of service.
Child Protection Prohibited Declaration Forms are kept at the parish level for accessibility and better storage.

Practical Component
Preparation and being observed for two lessons by a classroom teacher or appropriate person from church.
Availability
Different sections of the course are offered on a regular basis. Groups of 10 or more can request topics at any time. Prior learning is recognised for some units. Training with other denominations is recognised upon the completion of some supplementary assignment work.
